Musical works in progress

Posted by Denny Johnson on Monday, September 2, 2013, In : The Music's The Thing
Always something coming down the pipe, it seems. Had a good time recently visiting family in Winnipeg, MB, giving a rare opportunity to collaborate with my bro-in-law Brian Clark on some music. Just a computer-based acoustic version of "An Ordinary Love", but nice to work on. Written last year for my wife, Jay, and some day it deserves a more professional treatment. Posted up now on my site- if you feel inclined to have a listen.
Later- Denny.

Been following the "Best Original Song" site/competition for a few months. Great way to showcase some original material with the potential bonus of your music being showcased in their online shows starting Jan 16/2011. Of the 1st round of 108 songs chosen, I've got "Sometimes (Wishing)" playing at Jan 17 – 8.pm EST, and then "Fractured" playing at Feb 13th – 8.pm EST. Each show will be rebroadcast for the 24 hours following it, with the top 48 song voters/downloads moving to stage 2 of th...

New Song- "The Beginning"

Posted by Denny Johnson on Monday, November 16, 2009, In : The Music's The Thing
Song about remembering the initial rush of first love- and how to keep it fresh (or, refresh it) even after years together. The saying goes: "True love never dies". They just don't tell you it needs a weekend away every now and then (with the kid's blessing, of course) to remember that. And that line about "french fries and a bottle of wine"- got a picture proving that ain't made up!!!

Untimely loss- "Taylor Mitchell"

Posted by Denny Johnson on Wednesday, October 28, 2009, In : Musical Inspirations
A tragedy to hear about the loss of singer Taylor Mitchell. Great- and fresh- musical style, crossing between Folk, Country, and Traditional. You can check out her music at www.taylormitchell.ca and sign the guestbook with condolences if you like. Got me thinking more about losing my father-in-law, and the emotions that led to writing "Not Enough Time". Like to send it out as a humble dedication to her family and friends dealing with her loss. I understand what you're feeling. If only we HAD ...

"acidplanet.com"- good response!!!

Posted by Denny Johnson on Wednesday, October 21, 2009,
Been producing some home demo's of songs I've posted up here and on my other music sites. That includes the one I'm linked up to via Acid Planet- a site Sony manages to showcase the product produced musically by singer/songwriters covering a real range of styles. It's accessed direct from my Sony Acid Music Studio program so that- when you've finished a mix of a song- you can just link up and post it, with the aim of getting reviews from members. Took a couple of months but- got some reviews ...

"Everybody's Interested- If the Price Is Right"

Posted by Denny Johnson on Saturday, August 22, 2009,
Tried out a few songwriting competitions in the last couple of years- just to see what would happen, although not expecting much. So... no disappointments when nothing happened. And that's okay. But since then, I've had a couple of messages via my MySpace site, offering to include a song of MINE in some musical package- you know, for promotional purposes. get the music out there, etc... Although they seem legit, I'm left wondering if the music is their real interest- or are they just a self-p...

From "A" to "G"

Posted by Denny Johnson on Wednesday, July 29, 2009, In : The Learning Process
Learning the basics of guitar was- and always is- interesting. Remember what it was like? That first time you tried to stretch your fingers around a fret board, and you swore you could NEVER play anything with your hand like that. And then- one day- you caught yourself with the fret board nicely nestled in the palm of your hand, and you slid down to a few choice barre chords, and something amazing happened- "Music". I remember one question a good friend Val Hohn ("Mandingo Drive") put to me e...

Music- a healing for the soul

Posted by Denny Johnson on Saturday, June 27, 2009, In : Musical Inspirations
April 19, 2009 was a hard day for my family. Lost their grandfather- my father-in-law, Clary Perry- a little over a week after having a massive stroke. My wife and I had been there all night, and were there with him- unfortunately alone- as things happened so fast that others couldn't make it in time. And I felt bad about it- and sad, knowing what they'd lost. Next day, I had to get it out of my system. So, I wrote about it. It's the song "Not Enough Time"- written primarily for my mother-in-...
