After Everything (A Mother's Love).mp3
I started out without a thing to call my own
A helpless child in need of care- I could have felt so all alone
But when I opened up my eyes, what did I see?
A gentle smile that said "I'm glad you're here with me"
Remember times when I would stumble , and I'd fall?
I learned to walk, and then to run- but, looking back (as I recall)
You know there's not a pain or hurt I couldn't stand
As long as I could have you here to help me out and hold my hand
(CHORUS)
'Cause after everything, there's you
And you're the one who's there when things go wrong
Just like they sometimes do
A mother's love is what it takes to see me through
Things may come and go, it's true- but, after everything, there's you
Time can move you on- you leave the past behind
And make your choices, hoping time can heal old wounds- but what you find
Is that in life the things you've learned you want to share
With someone special you can count on being there
I look each day into the face of one I love
And wonder if the family that we have raised is strong enough
But when it seems to me that it's too hard to do
I just remember all the lessons that were taught to me by you
(CHORUS)
And after everything, there's you
You showed me what to do when things go wrong- just like they sometimes do
A mother's love is what it takes to see me through
Things may come and go, it's true- but, after everything, there's you
It may be hard to lose someone you've held so dear
I know that I cannot remove the pain you feel - yet still I'm here
To share the good and bad and all that's in between
You've given me so much, I have to let you know just what I mean
(CHORUS)
That after everything, there's you
You taught me how to care when things go wrong- just like they sometimes do
I'll share with you the love you gave to help me through
Things may come and go, it's true- but, after everything, there's you
Things may come and go, it's true- but, after everything, there's you
This was written not long after Dad passed away. Had this rough version worked up a few years later, but then filed away somewhere on my computer. Searching through my older music files, I found it and moved it to this file of early versions of some of my songs. But looking through the lyrics, it brought back memories of Mom always being there for us growing up- guiding, teaching, correcting, and a real support for Dad in raising us. Just never got around to sharing this with her.And then the reminders of how we have been able- since losing Dad- to be there for her. Prov 31:10-31- could be a description of Mom. And (Vs 31) her "reward" is waiting for her- and is sure. Love always...
